Spoke with Chris at Wavetrac to discuss potential development of a Limited-Slip Differential for our Macans!

Hey all,

I have a pretty cool, exciting update for anyone who'd like the ability to have a true, great-quality Limited Slip Differential for their Macan! I spoke with Chris over at Wavetrac, if anyone would be interested in heading a group buy, we would need 30 people interested, and we'd need someone who would be willing to lend their Macan to do the development on! I know I'm not the only one who's complained about the fact that the Macan can be a bit clunky, jerky, etc, in it's drivetrain.

Here's the actual, verbatim email,

"James,

Ya.. VW/Audi/Porsche share a lot of parts. You can really upset someone by telling them their Porsche is basically a Tiguan I'm sure.

And while we've never been asked for that differential application to be
made, we can do it with enough interest. We would just need a sample
differential for the design end of things and a shop that would want to lead
a group buy. But since it's nothing we've been asked on it's nothing we
would do on our own with hopes of selling as most around here in Southern California are just driven to the mall and grocery stores.

But ask around the boards/groups and see who wants to head a group buy and supply samples. Generally it takes a minimum of (30) units to get a project off the ground.

If anyone else is interested in this, please let me know! I think it could be really cool to see what kinda developments we can get out of our Macans and a sturdier, more consistent drivetrain could only help increase the longevity, reliability and provide greater opportunity for future modifications! If you're interested, please send me a message here!

Dont you already have an infinitely variable LSD with a GTS with PTV+?

Why don’t we hear about limited-slip differentials in new Porsches anymore? Because torque-vectoring systems have taken over. A limited-slip diff responds to wheel slip and transfers torque to the driven wheel with more traction (in a turn, for example, torque is transferred from inside wheel to outside wheel); a torque vectoring system does this as well ...

Back with the 987 there were companies, like Quaife, that sold aftermarket LSDs for the track guys but there was nothing from the factory. Today? OBE?

My '17 GTS is a Certified Pre-Owned. I definitely wanted Torque Vectoring; however, at the time in which I bought my GTS, this was a few years ago when there was a major vehicle shortage, and I told my salesperson that while I'd prefer PTV+, it wasn't a deal-breaker. As I understand, PTV+ can't be retrofitted. This was also my first Porsche, so I didn't fully comprehend all the nuances, complexities and really what all the various à la carte options & packages were from Porsche. At least, that's what I've heard so I could be wrong. If it can be retrofitted, I'd definitely have it. At any rate, I figured I'd post this for those in my similar predicament should they want to proceed.

Only if the vehicle was factory optioned with it. PTV take rate may be increasing on the GTS now that it's part of the GTS Sport package but before that, it wasn't very popular. Same with Cayman/Boxster. It wasn't until the current generation that PTV with LSD was standard on the GTS trims.
