Should I track it?

As part of my recent purchase I got a track day thrown into the deal. I've never personally driven on a track (although did a ride in a V8 supercar which was crazy) and never faster on the road than ~145km/h (86mp/h).

The track day is at Sandown Racetrack (www.sandown.net.au/motorsport.html), driving your own car and day is split into 6 x 20 minute sessions, 3 with & 3 without instructors.

Really excited by the prospect and will only do if I can get insurance to cover it, but have concerns over tyres and brakes.

Will most likely be too timid (that's the nice way of saying I'll be scared AF) to go crazy, but don't know effect on tyres and brakes. Is my free track day - RRP $600 - going to cost me thousands in tyres and brakes?? Or should I have a holiday to Queensland (say $2k with the family) and do a $1500 track day there in P supplied cars?

And yes, I'm astutely aware that my free trackday I got thrown in is going to cost me $$$, just rather be prepared for what $$$ it is going to cost.

I have found much delight in saving a few bucks. Then flying to Vegas. Get a good night's sleep. A good breakfast. And then head to the track to trash the dog snot out of a Lamb, Ferrari, Porsche, etc, etc. for 4-5 laps each. Depending on the acceleration out of the corners and bookin' for a 1/4 mile, you are standing on the brakes coming into an off-bank turn at around 140-150. It's great stuff! YOU drive. An instructor is just sitting next to you to help you through the track as each lap, you get more comfortable with the car, the coach and the track itself.

The rest of my times there. Well...what happens in Vegas.
SpeedVegas!

The place is pretty cool. I go to Vegas twice a year and I haven't done it yet. I drive by it twice and think about it. Maybe this October when I go to Henderson for a bowling camp and training.

That's how I go to boat launch on I95.

The whole family (son, wife and myself) uses Exotic Racing.
@Jkirkerx:

What @///Bruce said.

My wife and I visited LVNV for the first time in Feb. 2017, and then went back again in Oct. 2018, and a third time in Sept. 2019. Each time, I partook of Exotics Racing (IIRC, 12 - 15 laps each time).

Interestingly, that first time was in late February, just after a bad thing happened at SpeedVegas. Here are two R&T articles, from 2/15/17 and then 2/24/17:

Okay, that was a while ago, but it was frightening. As luck would have, I didn't know beans about this when I first went to Exotics Racing. I liked it so much, that afterward I did some research on it, and stumbled across those articles. Had I read them first, maybe I would've skipped the whole thing.

So while I don't have any experience with SpeedVegas, from what I read in R&T and from my own three-peat at ER, I have to say that I was very impressed with ER, they seem very professional, have lots of run-off, and I certainly plan to go back to them if I find myself in LVNV again.

Oh, BTW, when I first went to ER, they used Cayennes to show folks -- typically, groups of three customers at a time -- the track (two laps, one at moderate speed, and the second fast enough to give you whiplash). By my last trip, they had switched to Macans for this, because, an instructor told me, they suited their purposes just as well.

Didn’t realized it happened already. I knew that day was coming. That track is too small for a super car. I think the place is kind of cheesy, maybe that’s why I never made the time for it.

Chose the 918 Cayman for the Porsche driving experience, which was the cheapest at $400. The top price was $1000 for I think a 918 cayman GT4. I figured it’s plenty of car to get my thrill for an hour without getting crazy. I didn’t see the point of putting that much down on a small track. If I can finesse it through the turns smoothly, then I’ll be happy. I actually have no idea what to expect.

At Exotics Racing, I chose a Huracan for my first visit, and a 911GT3 for my visits in the following two years (I thought the GT3 RS would be wasted on me, as would the Ferraris, McLaren, etc.).

I had a higher front-straight speed in the Lambo, but had slightly quicker best laps in the Porsches. In all three cases, I was about a third down the list of participant-best-laps, i.e., my top laps were c. 70th percentiles.
But if you think of how many people go there every day…. A few wrecks would be expected. You must remember, some people have never driven cars of that caliber and at those speeds. And some have.
