So you really believe Porsche designed and manufactured multiple models/years of performance cars with inadequate radiator protection?

In your opinion, should there be a recall for this?

I am not here to defend Bob, but I don't recall him calling for a recall? Your comment is out of context, if you don't want or like mesh grills that is your perogative, but I don't understand why you need to continue to tell us that...

We know where you stand, so now can we continue our conversation about what we want to do?

Nope, no recall needed - not at all, I'm saying that most all the other Porsche models in the showroom had them, Macan's did not. I looked around on the road and in my parking lot recently and saw lots of Audis, BMW's Lexus, MB's and plenty of other more "average" cars and have yet to see a radiator so exposed. Another poster mentioned his Audi had some damage. Perhaps, there won't be any such damage to the Macan radiators (hopefully).
The SA couldn't answer why the Macan didn't have one, but did he did mention that I could buy the grill - which at $900.00 was ridiculous. I did not think it enough of a big deal to either buy the grill, nor not buy the S. In the larger picture, it's small stuff. All I'm saying is that I think it should be on there in the first place.

Bob, I agree, added protection couldn't hurt, I am looking for what I might be able to do for our Macan.

For reference, we were on a roadtrip last fall, during that 2 weeks I could not believe how much debris collected in the front of my BGTS, I have since undertaken to add protection to my grill openings to minimize this going forward.

IMHO, Porsche uses options and stylng queues like this to differentiate models, certainly if they add them to some models it is not out of the question to add them to others like the Macan.

For the record, there was 1 member who had his radiator replaced due to debris. I forgot the name of the member.

So I just picked up my new 2018 and this is bugging me. My 2008 Grand Cherokee with the 3.0 MB CRD had two A/C condenser coils bashed in by rocks. Same location low on the grill with no mesh and open like the Macan.
My 2018 Jeep Wrangler got a grill mesh added almost immediately.
BtW the fix on the Jeep was $300 a pop at an Indie shop dealer wanted 1000 and I can imagine what Porsche would charge.
All this if needed they would do it is BS as not one of my cars that Needed It came as standard.
And yes I had the GC for 10 years with no issues till the last few years as they started skimping on salt and now use grit in the winter.

Are Rennline's grills basically powdercoated stucco mesh? I'd prefer some kind of plastic instead. The powdercoating will still get chipped up over time exposing the shiny aluminum mesh.

True. Too bad they don't come in black so I guess the bulk of the cost is in powder coating. I guess you can always get a cheap powder coating setup from Harbor Freight and make as many of these as you want, and cheaply, when they get dinged up.

If I were serious about getting the Rennline screens*, I could drop them a line, and ask them directly. In the meantime, without contacting them, does anyone know if there's anything different about the MY 2018 Macans in this regard?

I ask, because the Rennline page says, "2014-2017 Macan Base/S with Sport Design. Also for GTS. Will not work on Macan Turbo," i.e., it does not mention 2018.

* I'm thinking about this mod, but Rennline's assurance that "If removing your bumper cover seems intimidating, don't worry, average bumper removal time without a car lift is 10-15 mins" doesn't really assure me. Maybe if I'm about to actually pull the trigger, I'd price out the labor of having the dealership put them on. I know a lot of you may think this is a trivial project, but I don't have a lift, or ramps, etc., and I'm getting pretty old and creaky to be crawling around on a garage floor.

I haven't done the Macan, but have done my previous 911s using black grilles from eBay and cardboard cutouts, some zip ties, and some screws. On my 991.1 tts, I bought the Zunsport grilles from Europe since they did not required removal of the bumper. I'm not doing the Macan, though - don't really see the need.

Sorry, I did not read through all of the pages here, but I used these grills on my '10 C4S and they were well made and fit perfectly. I don't know if they make them for the Macan, but it would be worth a call to see. Oh, no connection to the company by the way. I actually believe having these radiator protectors is a good idea. I lost a cooler in one of my other cars due to a rock hitting it and the cost was about $1,200 for the part to replace the damaged one. If Zunsport made a set for the Macan, I would likely order them. Here in CA the roads are terrible because fixing them is not a priority any longer. OK. I would make a call to them but I see now Rennline is making a kit for the Macan. For me, that is a potential problem solved. $270 is quite a bit cheaper than a new radiator or the grief of being stranded somewhere waiting for a tow or the way I would feel if my wife was broken down somewhere..... If there is a situation where I need to remove my front bumper, I will be looking at this 'oversight' by Porsche. Here in Houston, I had half a BRICK smash through the front headlight of my wife's C63. $2000 fix with OEM parts... There's enough crap on the road where it only takes a large nut or bolt or generic debris to take out a very expensive intercooler or your radiator. It's simply put a preventative solution.

I would prefer something that is a little nicer than chicken wire from Home Depot.
