Don't be overwhelmed with our tech talk! If you're wondering what all of those acronyms that we're using mean, this is the place to find out!

Macan - Macan means ”tiger” in both Indonesian and Malaysian languages.

PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management

PASM is an electronic damping control system. It actively and continuously adjusts damping force based on current road conditions and driving style. When a car is driven off-road or assertively in a manner that demands hard acceleration and braking, the forces acting on the car will normally induce perceptible body movements. PASM intervenes in these situations to reduce them. You can select from three modes: ‘Comfort’, ‘SPORT’ and ‘SPORT PLUS’. PASM is permanently active, adapting automatically to the current driving situation with the aim of increasing driving stability and comfort.

PCCB - Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes

The cross-drilled ceramic brake discs have a diameter of 396 mm at the front axle and a thickness of 38 mm. At the rear, they are 370 mm in diameter and 30 mm thick.

Their low thermal expansion prevents deformation under heavy braking. Furthermore, the ceramic brake discs are totally resistant to corrosion and offer more favorable noise-damping properties. The key advantage is that the brake discs are approximately 50% lighter than standard discs of similar design and size. Enhanced performance and fuel economy are not the only noticeable benefits: above all, it represents a major reduction in unsprung and rotating masses. The results are improved handling, better roadholding and increased ride comfort.

PDK - Porsche Doppelkupplung getriebe - Porsche Double Clutch Gearbox

PDK is essentially two gearboxes in one, thus requiring two clutches. This doubleclutch transmission provides an alternating, non-positive connection between the two half gearboxes and the engine by means of two separate input shafts. The flow of power from the engine is transmitted through one half gearbox and one clutch at a time, while the next gear is preselected in the second half gearbox. Therefore, during a gear change, one clutch simply opens and the other closes simultaneously, enabling gear changes to take place within milliseconds.

With the SPORT button selected, the full advantages of PDK are brought into play: a more immediate response to throttle inputs, relatively short shift times and swift throttle-blip downshifts on overrun, such as when braking into a corner, and always accompanied by an emotive engine sound.

PSM- Porsche Stability Management

PSM is an electronic control system that maintains stability – and increases driving safety – even at the limits of sporty performance.
Sensors continuously monitor driving direction, speed, yaw velocity and lateral acceleration. PSM actively intervenes to stabilize the vehicle when necessary by strategically applying the brakes at individual wheels. That's not all. If the driver suddenly releases the accelerator pedal, PSM primes the brake system for a higher state of readiness. Maximum braking power is therefore achieved much sooner. Integral ABS is optimized for short braking distances.

PDCC - Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control

PDCC is an active anti-roll system that anticipates and reduces lateral body movement when cornering. In addition, it minimises lateral sway of the vehicle on rippled road surfaces.

PTV Plus - Porsche Torque Vectoring

Sports car makers adore corners. With our technologies, we are forever fanning the flames of the relationship. PTV Plus is an optional system for enhancing both driving dynamics and stability.

Operating in conjunction with an electronically regulated rear differential lock, it works by varying the torque distribution to the rear wheels. When the car is driven into a corner, moderate brake pressure is applied to the inside rear wheel as the situation demands. Consequently, a greater amount of drive force is distributed to the outside rear wheel, inducing an additional rotational pulse (yaw movement) around the vehicle’s vertical axis. The effect is a direct and sporty steering action. And considerable driving pleasure at every twist and turn.

At low and medium vehicle speeds, PTV Plus significantly increases agility and steering precision. At high speeds on the straight, and in fast corners where the wheels threaten to spin, the electronically controlled rear differential lock provides added driving stability. Stability is also improved on road surfaces with varying grip as well as in the wet and snow.

PDLS - Porsche Dynamic Light System

The Bi-Xenon™ headlights feature automatic and dynamic range control, which provides uniform illumination of the road whether low or high beam is selected. The dynamic cornering light function swivels the headlights towards the inside of a bend based on the steering angle and road speed. The static cornering lights activate the auxiliary headlights in order to illuminate more of the road at tight bends and turns. Put simply, a greater part of the road ahead is illuminated the moment you enter a bend.In addition, PDLS adjusts the range of the low beams at higher speeds and reduces the effect of the reflection phenomena in poor visibility conditions.

PDLS+ - Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus

PDLS Plus offers two additional functions ontop of PDLS. The dynamic high beam feature adapts the headlight range to oncoming traffic and to traffic in front.

PCM - Porsche Communications Management

PCM is your central information and communication system. It is powerful and multifunctional, yet easy to operate.
The focal point is the 7-inch color touchscreen. The radio features 42 memory presets and an FM twin tuner. The standard universal audio interface allows you to save up to 5,000 MP3 files on the 40 GB internal hard drive of PCM for direct playback. Also available as an option is a digital radio enabling you to listen to digital radio stations. The CD/DVD drive supports the following formats: CDs, MP3 files and audio DVDs. Integrated in PCM, the optional CD/DVD autochanger holds up to six CDs or DVDs.
The navigation module with high-speed hard drive displays maps in 2D or from a driving perspective. Even 3D rendering is available in some regions. In conjunction with optional online services, it is possible to find online destinations and conveniently transfer them to the navigation system.

VarioCam Plus - Advanced Variable Valve Timing

With their twin-turbo V6 engine, the Macan Turbo and Macan S are additionally equipped with VarioCam Plus. This system switches the lift of the intake valves, resulting in instant acceleration and smooth engine running performance.

AS - Air Suspension

For a high level of comfort and tremendous dynamic performance, you have the option of an air suspension including PASM. With this setup, the car is 15 mm lower than with the steel spring suspension. The effect? Improved aerodynamics. The self-leveling function helps to keep the ride height constant.

A ride-height adjustment capability enables you to switch the ground clearance to three levels: Terrain Level, Normal Level and Low Level. At Terrain Level, the car is 40 mm above Normal Level; at Low Level, 10 mm below it. Loading Level is especially practical: from Normal Level, the rear end of the body lowers 40 mm to make it easier to load the car. This function is operated by means of a button in the luggage compartment.

LCA - Lane Change Assist

Lane Change Assist monitors the areas to the rear of the vehicle and the blind spots on either side. Between 19 and 155 mph, the system issues a visual warning signal in the exterior mirrors whenever a vehicle rapidly approaches your vehicle from behind or enters one of your blind spots. In this way, Lane Change Assist improves comfort and safety, particularly on motorways. However, the system does not actively intervene to control the vehicle and can be deactivated at any time.

LA - Lane Assist

Lane Assist uses a camera installed in the front end to detect divider line markings on the road. If the car threatens to cross one of the lines, the system steers the vehicle back into the center of the lane. This correction is accompanied by a soft steering pulse. Of course, you are able to override the system at any time.
The function may be deactivated in specific conditions, e.g. bad weather.

SC - Sport Chrono

The Sport Chrono Package adds a stopwatch with an analog and a digital display to the cockpit. The performance display in PCM lets you view a range of driving stats, including your total driving time, current lap distance and lap times recorded so far. The lateral and longitudinal forces acting on the vehicle are illustrated by the G-Force graphic on the color screen in the instrument cluster.

The center console also comes equipped with the SPORT PLUS button, which is used to activate SPORT PLUS mode. In this mode, the engine becomes even more responsive and the tachometer is adjusted to a harder setting. Porsche Traction Management (PTM) is now tuned for even sportier performance. For cars with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), SPORT PLUS mode results in harder damping and more direct steering. In addition, the trigger threshold for PSM is raised for increased longitudinal and lateral dynamics. The shift times of PDK, fitted as standard, become even shorter, the gear changes even sportier. The optional air suspension automatically drops to Low Level. Launch Control is primed to deliver optimum acceleration from a standing start.

PSE - Porsche Sport Exhaust

The optional sport exhaust system delivers an even more resonant sound. The chromium-plated sport tailpipes – available in a choice of silver color or black – are a treat for both the eyes and the ears.
Optional for Macan Turbo and Macan S.

Macan - MacanMacan means ”tiger” in both Indonesian and Malaysian languages.
I am Malay and worked in Indonesia for over ten years, so when the name came up it didn't trigger any alarm bells. Because I understood it pronounced as "Ma-kan". Until I read the blurb that is... Whoa.

"Tiger" is close, but no cigar. The locals pronounced Macan as "Ma-chan" due to revised standardized spelling in the early 70s by the literary powers of Malaysia and Indonesia. C.. "Ch".. That's why China is spelt "Cina" over there.

Ma-chan specifically refers to a tiger with spots (leopard-like). Malays and Inidonesians call tiger (with stripes) "harimau". So it's not tiger but leopard (but in the larger scheme of things, who cares coz it sounds good). :D

Biologist familiar with Linnaean classification might take offense. As would Darwinists too I imagine. LoL!

Excellent post. Very helpful to a dope like me.

But isn't it missing AS?

Also a note on each whether it's optional, standard, or can be turned off partially or completely?

Thank you for a great job all around, Mr. Mod.

Reading through this, PCM should be adjusted with the screen size as it has been updated in the new refresh models. Or omit the screen size info completely:)

icw = in conjunction with -- meaning that some optional features have prerequisites.

For example, PASM is a prerequisite for the air suspension option. You can get PASM with steel springs, but you can't get air suspension without PASM.

PCCB - Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes - Another significant advantage is a near-lack of brake dust. Vehicles with PCCBs will have much cleaner wheels.

PDK - Porsche Doppelkupplung getriebe - Porsche Double Clutch Gearbox -- Note that "PDK" is a brand name, not a specific gearbox. Porsche uses several different gearboxes and labels them all "PDK" for marketing reasons (e.g., the dual-clutch gearbox in the standard Macan is shared with Audi, where it is branded the "S tronic" dual-clutch transmission).
