2018 Macan was ordered with a trailer hitch but wasn't delivered with the electric coupler plug. Went to dealer & they were kind enough to give me one & I thought this is an easy task, I'll install it.
Well, I can't figure out "how to remove the electric harness" from the (temp) plate that is screwed onto the trailer hitch. I see some kind of latching device that needs to be dealt with, but... Any details on how to remove that so I can plug it onto the 7 pin coupler plug would be appreciated. Last thing I want to do is force something & break it.

Thank you!

Not sure I fully understand the question, but does post number 3 in the following thread help? The description is for a Cayenne, but likely the same for the Macan. A few other tidbits later in the thread as well.

Below are the other threads I'm familiar with on the topic of tow hitch wiring. You may have found these yourself already....but including them just in case one of them is helpful.

SoCalS5 thank you for the links!

I think the instructions for removing the wiring harness from the blank plug were in the thread. Wish there were some pics of it, but I’ll tryin the morning from the description in the thread.

I will post the outcome.

Ok, to remove the blank plate from the 7 pin trailer wiring harness a white clip needs to be removed first. To get that clip off there’s a little retainer cam that needs to be depressed while sliding off the clip. Once removed a pivoting arm can be depressed to slide the 7 pin wiring harness from the blank plate. Reverse this procedure to install the Pollak 11-893P 7-Way Sealed RV OEM Socket instead of the blank plate. The worst part is removing the white clip & the rest is elementary.

Thanks for the assist SoCalS5...

Just a couple of pictures would be worth gold here.

It’s all done and won’t be going back into it to photograph. I do opologize!

If you go into it though just read the post above & it should come together fine.

Having good lighting, magnified eye wear & a couple small flat blade screw drivers with some patience... getting that little white clip off is tricky in the tight area but very doable!

Great pics, thanks for posting.
On that white clip the center little white button needs to be depressed while sliding the white clip off.
Once the white clip is removed there is a levering black clip to press while sliding off the blank mounting piece.

Thanks for the pictures, I would have never figured it out without them. (Having THREE small hands would have helped too!)

Here’s a pic of the white clip removed so someone can see what you are trying to push past.

Now for the real question. I also had to remove the black clip shown to get the cover plate off. Was I not supposed to do that? I didn’t see any other way and there’s not much space to work up there.

My apologie, it’s been so long ago now I don remember the details. Hopefully someone will chime in that knows. You might try a tech at the dealership that deals with these.
Good Luck...

HA, I didn't look at the date of your post, just glad to find the pictures!.

I don't have a trailer handy, but I did plug in a 7 to 4 adapter. Everything seams tight and it clicked right in so I'll cross my fingers and go with it.

Reading through this post made me realize I didn't have the electrical connection for my 2021 GTS either. A trip to the dealer, and I bought the connector AND a 4/7 pin adapter as well. Just in case I ever do haul a trailer. Total cost for BOTH pieces....about $26 including sales tax. In Porsche world, that is almost free. :) Why doesn't the Macan come with a hookup kit? There is no universal standard, so it is relegated to the "aftermarket" market.

I read this and other posts and bought the part. Issue is, the receiver end is female and so is the recommended adapter. (dealer parts dept was no help). I have scoured the internet and cannot find a solution. Am I missing something?

It looks like you removed the cover plate but are missing this. It plugs into the part on the car, attaches with the four screws you have, and then you can plug the 7 to 4 pin socket adapter into it.

I sold my Porsche so I cannot show it any better. This poster mounted his hinge left. If I recall, I was able to mount mine hinge top. The spring loaded cover is weather sealed so I don’t think it is a big deal.

As others have commented, Porsche should be doing this at the factory. The part is <$30 and either way it has to be screwed into the frame, meaning there is no labor savings, so why not give the people what they want?

As a new member of this forum, I just want to say that this is an awesome thread/post! I just purchased a 2017 Macan S. It had the trailer receiver installed, but with no trailer wiring connector. Just a plate. I bought the connector on Amazon based on recommendations on this forum. I don't think I could have gotten it installed without the great pictures and descriptions given here. (y)

Does anyone know where to get this stupid 2 piece clip?? The black part was lost on mine and now the 13 pin Porsche harness will not stay connected to my 7 pin adapter for my Airstream. Worst design ever.
