I had a chat to Dale B and made an appointment to see him this Friday at 2:15pm! :)
If you want to come in a bit earlier I can meet you before your appointment to go through options you can consider etc... Actually do we still have to make an appointment to come into the dealership as everyone there was working from home not very long ago !

Apologies for the long story, feel free to skip to the pretty pictures at the end.

So…. almost exactly 12 months ago I was ready to place an order on a Macan GTS when the virus hit us here in Melbourne so decided to cool my jets for a bit to see how business was impacted, fast forward a couple of months and our business was carrying along surprisingly OK so was just about to place an order and Melbourne (Aus) was sent into lockdown and so I went back into a holding pattern, which in the end I am extremely grateful for.

You see, I am new to the brand and really had no idea of what I was spec’ing having only admired Porsche from a distance and not really knowing anything about the marque except that it was expensive, made really nice cars and I probably would never be able to afford one.

I had spec’d a pretty basic white GTS with no sports chrono and was trying to keep the price more ‘affordable’. Then I found this forum and boy has it changed me, my build and my opinion on forums in general.

I picked up my new car this morning The Porsche Code and as you can see, ticked a lot of the boxes that I had previously left unchecked.

A huge thanks to this forum letting me live vicariously through your builds/deliveries and especially for advice like:
  • woodgrain is more of a luxury spec than a GTS spec item
  • sports chrono is the ‘porsche button’
  • white dials make them easier to read and they change colour in duller light
  • the difference between LCA & LKA and defining every other acronym
  • you can have any trim level, spec it exactly how you want it, add or subtract any option and you’re still left with an unbelievably good car and it will not be the same as anyone else’s
and most importantly
  • if you add the ionizer you get an even amount of buttons which will help my never before realised OCD – really, it just looks prettier
How else has the forum changed me? I now watch a lot more car porn (my wife’s term) on youtube, know a shedload more about detailing, watches, current events – in the US anyway - and what a real winter looks like (those in other parts of Aus thought I already knew).

My opinion on forums has changed in that despite diametrically opposed views on the political spectrum, gun laws or whether black 20” spiders are too hard to keep clean, those here are for the most part respectful and can at least agree that Porsche makes great cars.

Hope you enjoy the pics, for those seeing the steering wheel on the wrong side, just turn your monitor upside down, and @wwahl – I’m waiting!!

Too funny! My dad lives at the docklands and I asked him to keep an eye out the window when my ship arrived. He laughed at my "joke" - little did he know...

What sort of pre-delivery work have you got booked in? PPF/Ceramic etc? Are you thinking next week? Very exciting, you've been waiting longer than I did I think.

First impressions are that it's amazing, I've never been so excited to go and get petrol, groceries etc, what used to be a 5 minute trip now takes at least 20minutes, you know, cos I'm breaking it in and short trips not letting it get a little bit warmed up are not good for it.😉

It does have some quirks, I'll probably get time to do a longer write up on the weekend and go into some detail, really want to take it for a drive on some windy roads again first, you know, for research purposes only.

Nothing booked pre-delivery at this stage - the only thing I may get done is tinting (if they provide at a reasonable cost). With Easter I'm expecting delays but hoping that by middle of April (15-17) I'll be collecting.

I've been waiting since August but this last month has felt like the hardest part 🙃

I've been there, couldn't sleep from when it left Fremantle to when I had pics from the dealer. I had a day planned in my head for delivery about 1 month out and was actually able to schedule for that day, only then was I able to relax a little, knowing it was waiting for me, not the other way round. I sound ridiculous, what have I become????

Well, it’s been just over a month and 1800kms with the new Macan, we’re slowly getting used to each other, it’s not perfect, but then again, neither am I.

Firstly, the quirks:
As I said, I’m still getting used to it, so maybe it’s me, but there seems to be some issues, with the tech. I know Porsche are not known for their tech, but these things just seem silly to me and I’d imagine that with the engineers that VAG have surely there is someone who can do something with the following:
  • ACC – why does it always default to largest gap? I have to change it every time even though I’ve tried to ‘set’ the key to the smallest gap
  • PCM – having to press play on the radio, not all the time, not every time, but usually just after I’ve waited for the system to kick in and I think I’m not going to have to do it, then bam! no music to sing along to. My 17yo daughter hates it when I can’t sing to her.
  • LKA – this is, all-in-all pretty good, it is fairly aggressive in trying to keep you in the middle of the lane. Quite disconcerting at first, but not as disconcerting as the time it didn’t work. I was doing 100km/h on a highway and it allowed the car to drift quite significantly. I was concentrating at the time, so no danger, just weird that it didn't try to re-centre when it has at other times
  • LCA – so far this is just annoying and does not work how it should. Yes, the warning lights on the mirrors are good, but that JJJJJJT, JJJJJJT sound that occurs randomly is bizarre to say the least. I can be on the freeway and not even thinking of changing lanes and the warning will sound. Othertimes I’ll want to change lanes, there will be no cars within cooee and it will sound. I’m assuming it’s the LCA and not the LKA as it still sounds even if I trigger the indicators
  • The ioniser does nothing except add a button – but I knew that going in
  • Why does the map on the changeable dial not show directions/turns etc?
The positives:
Too many to mention, but here are a few:
  • It looks friggen beautiful. Everytime I walk out to hop in it just lifts the mood. I don’t know whether I’ve been stared at all my life and just not noticed, but this car gets looks from everyone.
  • The startup noise – I know a lot of forum members complain it doesn’t have the exhaust note of the old models, but it sounds great to me. Not sure how much my neighbour likes it, I feel kinda bad if I’m heading off to work at 6am or picking up my daughter from a party at midnight, but only until the sound hits my ears
  • The brushed black aluminium trim is beautiful. When I was deciding on this car I looked at the Audi Q8 as well. Whilst (different) nice, the piano black finish just reflected sunlight at annoying levels. The black aluminium trim is beautiful to look at and touch. Also loving the white dials and how they change colour.
  • I’ve been relatively careful over the first 1500kms trying to break her in nicely, and have mainly driven in O & S modes but just had to put it into S+ the other day and try some launches. First one I did I scared the shite out of myself and backed off pretty much straight away. I’d forgotten how quick it was and nearly gave myself whiplash. I tried it again that night and giggled like a schoolgirl at the sheer speed of the thing off the mark. I left it in S+ for the rest of the 5kms home and the burble from the motor put an even bigger grin on my face.
  • I took my Dad out for a spin, and he was jealous and disappointed that he chose the Audi S5 coupe, his is loud and quick, just not as loud and quick!
The most annoying thing about the car though is other drivers. I’ve never been so annoyed with slow drivers as I am now. I don’t know whether it’s because no-one is on public transport due to covid, but there are way too many cars in my way, generally driving 3 abreast across all lanes on the freeway doing 98km/h at best. I’ve been on a couple of windy drives as well and it handles beautifully, just wished people would keep out of my way – if only Porsche could come up with that as an option!

I’ll never be a good enough driver to get everything out of the car, but I’m gonna have fun trying!

@smemick, love reading your comments and congrats on your new ride. I have a similar story developing with a GTS on order expected in July. After reading your thread and a few others I can’t believe I called my SA and added the ionizer. OCD. One question for others, in Canada it seems the GTS model has AS as a standard feature. It’s listed the std features on the print out from the configurator and I doubled checked the configuration options for AS and it wasn’t there. Can anyone confirm?

Adaptive air suspension and Porsche active suspension management are standard (included) on a GTS in Canada. Not sure what you mean by "I doubled checked the configuration options for AS and it wasn’t there." If you're referring to the GTS details on the Porsche Canada website, included AS and PASM are identified in a couple spots.
