Apologies for the long story, feel free to skip to the pretty pictures at the end.

So…. almost exactly 12 months ago I was ready to place an order on a Macan GTS when the virus hit us here in Melbourne so decided to cool my jets for a bit to see how business was impacted, fast forward a couple of months and our business was carrying along surprisingly OK so was just about to place an order and Melbourne (Aus) was sent into lockdown and so I went back into a holding pattern, which in the end I am extremely grateful for.

You see, I am new to the brand and really had no idea of what I was spec’ing having only admired Porsche from a distance and not really knowing anything about the marque except that it was expensive, made really nice cars and I probably would never be able to afford one.

I had spec’d a pretty basic white GTS with no sports chrono and was trying to keep the price more ‘affordable’. Then I found this forum and boy has it changed me, my build and my opinion on forums in general.

I picked up my new car this morning The Porsche Code and as you can see, ticked a lot of the boxes that I had previously left unchecked.

A huge thanks to this forum letting me live vicariously through your builds/deliveries and especially for advice like:
  • woodgrain is more of a luxury spec than a GTS spec item
  • sports chrono is the ‘porsche button’
  • white dials make them easier to read and they change colour in duller light
  • the difference between LCA & LKA and defining every other acronym
  • you can have any trim level, spec it exactly how you want it, add or subtract any option and you’re still left with an unbelievably good car and it will not be the same as anyone else’s
and most importantly
  • if you add the ionizer you get an even amount of buttons which will help my never before realised OCD – really, it just looks prettier
How else has the forum changed me? I now watch a lot more car porn (my wife’s term) on youtube, know a shedload more about detailing, watches, current events – in the US anyway - and what a real winter looks like (those in other parts of Aus thought I already knew).

My opinion on forums has changed in that despite diametrically opposed views on the political spectrum, gun laws or whether black 20” spiders are too hard to keep clean, those here are for the most part respectful and can at least agree that Porsche makes great cars.

Hope you enjoy the pics, for those seeing the steering wheel on the wrong side, just turn your monitor upside down, and @wwahl – I’m waiting!!

@IndyMac @SEAMacanTurbo
Was wondering if anyone would actually pick that up! Probably not a no-cost option.

@Run Buh Was told no breaking in required, but will go relatively easy first 1000kms or so anyway. SA said probably be worse for the car driving too placidly than driving harder. Been out to a local wine area today frustrated by some traffic but did get to go harder couple of corners, love that downshift.

@Iwcpilot Thanks, looks fantastic IRL, much better than configurator, can't believe they've discontinued it.

I guess check your manual to confirm. Page 18 of the US manual states 2,000 miles.

Congrats! Great pics!! Is this from Porsche Doncaster??
I'm in the market for a GTS too but they don't seem to move from the RRP! Were you able to score any deals or did you pay RRP too?

Thanks in advance.
Thanks @silverathlon , yep from Doncaster. I dealt with Ben who was easy to deal with but probably doesn't know as much about the Macan as those on here. Did get approx 6.5% off plus some freebies - tint, mats, track day thrown in. Had a good chat with him on delivery and he said how busy they've been, can't get 2nd hand, so selling lots of new, some models now not delivering till December. It's tough, hopefully you can get something off, otherwise might be better to wait. Lack of dealers also doesn't help and from reading on here I think Melbourne and Brighton are owned by same company so not really interested in haggling against each other.

Good luck, DM if you want any more info, don't know how much help I'll be though.

@Run Buh Thanks. Just checked mine and yep, says 3000kms or 1865m (on p.15 for those playing at home). I tried searching on the good to know app but nothing came up. Another example of the forum knowing more than the SA. He did say that when they get a demo vehicle they drive it hard straight out of the box, something to remember if buying a dealer demo.

Maybe Porsche should make the MF compulsory reading.

That's awesome..I thought I recognized that delivery area😊
That's a pretty good discount considering I'm not getting any movement on price! I believe you are right about the 2nd models and them selling lots of new cars so there is no need for them to discount.
Yeah I might give Porsche Melbourne a go and see how that pans out else I might just wait as you suggested
Thanks again for the response. Much appreciated!
Hope you enjoy that beautiful ride!
Cheers.

Waiting and reading led to more boxes ticked !! Congrats !!

Congrats Smemick! Thanks for sharing the story!

Love the Sapphire Blue... The hardest part of waiting for the car (since August) has been questioning my choices... But I think you summed it up perfectly below:

you can have any trim level, spec it exactly how you want it, add or subtract any option and you’re still left with an unbelievably good car and it will not be the same as anyone else’s
Regarding run-in; there is a bunch of advice (some of it conflicting) across the forums - but my view is drive it well, but not hard, for the first few thousand km, and then open it up :)

Melbourne is a beautiful city. A drive up the great ocean road with the new wheels seems in order sometime soon!

Well done mate ! Looks fantastic. Not many GTS Macans in Aus with air suspension. Did you compare driving straight PASM vs Air prior to buying ? Adding air with ioniser evens out the buttons. I too would do it the OCD way as well. I know the LCT applied to every single option stings but if you use the options they are worth it.

Dale B at PCM is very easy going and not pushy at all if you are heading down there (tell him Sanjay suggested him). I got a 3% discount without even asking for one, ended at 3.5% with a few things thrown in. You can try for 6.5% why not ! Thanks to our lovely progressive stamp duty I worked out if you want an instant $3K off you have to keep the drive away at $163.5K or less to get an instant $3K off as you go from 9% to 7% duty. If you get smemick's discount then option a car up to about $174K and ask for a discount to $163,499 and you will drive it away at $160,499 ! It's crazy.

PS: Honda is about to start but my cousin at Mercedes tells me they are starting next year with the fixed pricing model. No discounts ! Others will follow suit no doubt.

Brighton and Doncaster are owned by the same parent company ... Preston motors.

PCM is owned by Porsche Australia and in fact their Australian headquarters is also located there.

Maybe Brighton/Doncaster are more willing to make deals ? I bought from PCM as it's walking distance. When they ask me if I want a loaner and I usually just say no thanks, I'll stroll back down after lunch :)

Thanks mate! I will definitely hit up Dale and see what I can get.😊
Thanks for the info on the stamp duty! That's very interesting.

Yes, I've heard Honda are about to start and so are Mercedes. Interesting times ahead!!
I might be the only one but I think haggling makes buying a car a more satisfying experience!
