20147 Views 94 Replies 29 Participants Last post by  grim
Had my 23 month old 17s with 8500 miles battery replaced today. And it was NOT under warranty do to not driving 6000 miles a year and no trickle charge used.

part (958-611-092-21)/labor. The dealer charge 671.00 with a 20% coupon.

On my to do list today is to buy a trickle charger. Any idea what trickle charger maintainer should I buy.

Thanks

Why do you need a Porsche battery? You can find one with similar specs for a fraction of the cost, and update the computer so the charging system works properly.
Here is the CTEK MXS 5.0 from Autoanything.com: Link.
They have a Labor Day Sale using Labor21 which brings the price down to $73.46 including S/H and no tax to FL.

Would somebody please confirm this is the correct charger for using cigarette adapter on my Macan Turbo 15?
Not sure I think model #3300 is what Porsche's version is. Someone confirm?
I plug my charger into cig lighter receptacle with key off, then turn on charger then turn key on and off. Charger stays active until unplugged. The ctek cig lighter charger has 3 colored lights to indicate status. Above directions lead to green light on charger plug.
thank you
So I just read on the SUNCOAST site...re their version of the CTEK charger...this:

"Macan - "**" Macan models can't be charged at the 12 volt plugs inside the car. To bypass this, visit your local Porsche dealer and they can code your Macan to accept a battery maintainer. Or purchase the additional battery clamps and charge the battery directly."

is the correct?

This is the CTEK website https://smartercharger.com. The MXS 5.0 looks new. Most people probably buy the 4.2. You have to compare the features side by*side to see the difference. Don't confuse 5.0 chargers. One of them is for European voltage. The 4.2 goes on sale all the time. Just look around. Sometimes it comes bundled with the accessories you might want.

At one time the rebranded Porsche charger was the 3300, that's 3.3 Amps vs the 4.2 amps. Make sure you get a version for handling AGM batteries. Porsche was still selling rebranded chargers that did not have that setting.
CTEK MUS 4.3 for AGM batteries. I have two and they work!
So back to the issue, no one has answered. If you lock the doors (or keep it unlocked?) will the VTEK charge the battery thru the cig lighter port?
In my 2016 I need to turn the ignition on and then off after the CTEK is connected to the cigarette lighter to keep the cigarette lighter “live”. There was a thread that discussed this a while back if you are able to find it. If I recall correctly different model years might function slightly differently because there were some software changes.

Exact same here Shark. I am using the Porsche Pro charger. I think they dis con the original now.
Question for those charging through the cigarette lighter - do you run the cord through the window or over the door threshold? The instructions recommend running it over the door threshhold, but then you can't close the door? And I don't want critters getting into the car through a cracked door.

Where are you running the cord?

You can close the door. Idid it on my Targa. Rubber molding is very forgiving

thanks
And to be even more specific..I can it near the front of the passenger door sill and into the cig lighter...that way it was kept low...its fine door closes completely

It's happily charging.

Another question - a couple of times when starting the car, I had been hearing a warning that the battery was low. Is that something to worry about? (I think it had to do with the fact that I was leaving the radar detector plugged in and the car keeps power to the outlet for 30 mins after shutoff.)
Shut that RD OFF!! burns lots of juice!

Why would you leave anything running, ever?

I don't now. But when I first got the car, I assumed the cigarette outlet shut off when the ignition was turned off .... I didn't realize it was still active for 30 mins. Once I realized that, I faithfully disconnect the RD when I shut down.
More than 24 hours now on the charger and the battery still doesn't have a full charge. I'm gonna give it another day and if it still isn't fully charged, assume it's a faulty battery?

36+ hours and the battery is still not fully charged. I went by the dealer and spoke to the service manager. He said the CTEK can take a really long time (several days) to charge depending on how low the battery is. If by Monday, it's still not fully charged, bring it in and he will fast charge it.
Had to replace my battery when it wouldn't keep a charge (it was done under warranty)after close to three years of useage. Car would start ok but auto/stop start would not function. That was about a year ago and now use ctek at least once a week in summer and every other day in winter. All functions now work well.
