GTS build - new to this

Hi, I've been thinking about a Macan GTS for a whole year now and since it's still on my mind I'm going to put one foot in front of the other and do it.

I've always driven second hand/hand me down regular cars. I'm into mid life, few failed relationships and have saved money with no real goals. Pair that with a recent job change that has meant something that was a fairy tale to me can be a reality.

I got myself to walk into the local Porsche dealer yesterday which was almost an outer body experience and has put my mind into overdrive and playing with the online configurator a lot now!

Relevant things about me and my taste:
  • I've never bought a new car
  • I've never had a performance car
  • I feel I want some level of practicality hence the Macan
  • Not ready for the all out sport car experience of other Porsche models (I don't think)
  • I'm reasonably conservative (maybe read this as boring) with my tastes but I'm really trying not to be
  • I want the car to look like a GTS. I want to know I'm getting into a GTS. So please help me to get over the point above :)
  • I'm aware the options add up very quickly and that's tough for me being typically pretty tight/conservative with money
  • I don't think I can justify one of the "special colours" over the other metallic options, although they all look very good. I would probably go crayon if I did, maybe red.
  • I do like the interior with the contrast stitching
Other than that, I feel a little overwhelmed with the internal/external colour options and think quite a few combos look great haha.

I liked this build (PPNCS7V7) with the Carrara White Metallic, even the green contrast inside. I've played around with this combo, but keep liking the red stitching inside and I'm also kinda wanting a louder colour and liking the Papaya Metallic (orange) but it doesn't quite look right and keep going back to the white metallic. I'm not a designer and don't want the choices to clash haha.

I'm also a little confused at some of the very recent build threads on this forum and some of the options I'm seeing as standard equipment now. ACC for example and surround view both seem to be in the standard GTS for me. It's as though the base Macan GTS has changed for 2023?

My last thing is, I do like the idea of the GTS sport package and am mainly hesitant about how the race tex will look and feel to sit on in the seats as well as the steering wheel. I'll go into the dealer to try, but comments are generally along the lines of someone like me being nervous about it and then everyone saying how much they love it! Other than that, I also happen to like the idea of the tacho in carmine red which I can't option with the sport package. But removing the sport package removes a lot of options/bling which is expensive to manually add. I really like the more open GT wheels too so have been adding these either way.

Here's my code. The Porsche Code

Quick last thing, I live in a colder place and feel the cold which is why the heated seats. I did read for resale (I actually wont be selling this haha) that heated seats and sunroof are the main things to add.

Feel free to offer any insight, opinion or advice you have. I want it all. I won't be offended if your taste is different to mine :)

Thank you very much.

good for you. beautiful car. What is the total drive off price there in Aussie land? I would add the PSCB for 1500. The rotors have a mirror finish and there is very little brake dust. The brakes fade less and the rotors last longer. And if you get the white calipers they really stand out.

I personally don’t like the racetex on the steering wheel and I don’t think it stays as nice as leather.

Stany with a flashy color IMO. It’s a GTS you want to stand out a little.

if you can afford it I would load it up with whatever makes you happy. Don’t worry about resale. 5-10 grand here or there in the whole scheme of things isn’t going to make a difference if this is a life long dream.

also something to consider. You have never had a sports car you say. The GTS will feel like a monster to you at first. It will also ride kind of harsh especially on the 21 inch wheels. A Macan S has nearly the performance and May ride a little nicer for less cost. Just a thought. if you like a luxury ride the GTS May disappoint but if you want a true porsche feel then the GTS would be awesome and you would get used to it.

congrats on your decision

I'm a little worried about the "clash" between Papaya and Carmine. Of course with white paint the stitching color is a non-issue. Is Papaya stitching (to complement the paint color) offered with Black interior? Overall, a great build! And good on you for sticking your neck out with this vehicle!

I have always wanted something like this and will have no problem with the ride I don’t believe and if I’m spending this money I’m going to do it properly :) Thanks for your other thoughts. The steering wheel race tex is a point I’ll need to figure out. It’s just super annoying I can’t change the race tex steering on the sport package.

The base gts drive away is 160k aud and I’ve added about $21k aud of extras on top of that with this build I think. It’s not great here but we are used to it :)

I'm a little worried about the "clash" between Papaya and Carmine.
Thanks for this too. It’s also on my mind. I could switch the interior to the green stitch which should be pretty perfect here. I do think the car in metallic white looks very nice too. Maybe I need to fork out for the crayon.

Good for you. Don't hesitate, do it, life is too short. I was in a similar situation as you, never thought I see the day I'de own my own Porsche. I jumped in with both feet and bought a 22 CWM GTS and love it, no regrets.

' Congrats! Once you step into the dealership there’s no turning back.😜 The GTS is a beautiful blend of performance and practicality. You’re going to love it.

The sport package is very nice. My only personal concern is keeping the race Tex steering wheel clean. For an everyday driver I prefer a leather wheel which I believe can be chosen in conjunction with the sport package. I sometimes regret not getting the sport package…

The hardest decision will be colour and it’s one you have to make on your own. You’re on opposite ends of the conservative spectrum with white and papaya! Is interior or exterior colour choice more important to you? If you can narrow that down it’ll be easier to choose a complimentary colour to match.

Hi Tony123, welcome from a fellow Aussie From Sydney! My Macan S has just turned a year old and it still puts a smile on my dial everytime I get into it. You’ll be very happy with your choice whatever configuration you decide apon. Have you placed an order with a dealership yet? I think the wait time in Australia is 18 months for a GTS and 12 months for an S, so it be good to get in the que as quickly as possible. You’ll only need to put a refundable deposit down and can change your configuration until the lock date ( typically 6 weeks before the car goes into production).

On your configuration, keep in mind the standard equipment offered in Australia differs to the USA. As an example in Australia, for the GTS, surround view, BOSE sound system, metallic paint and sports chrono is standard while extra in the USA ( Our cars are substantially more expensive than in the USA, so they should have some more stuff)

Colour is a personal choice but my five cents is the papaya doesn’t work with the carmine red interior. I would personally go with the Carmine Red. Its a stunning colour and rare ( cause its extra $ ) and is not a loud red and in my opnion a very stylish colour that won’t go put of fashion ( which could happen to papaya and crayon). Obviously the white or crayon would also work well with the interior.

On your spec I would also add the lockable wheel nuts ( for $110 added piece of mind) and consider the load management system ( it can’t be retrofitted) - its great if you have stuff in the boot all the time. There is a youtube video that shows how it works.

Two things to check is whether you can get comfortable in the 18 way seats and whether you want the “softer GTS suspension setting”. I found the 14 way seats more comfortable and there is no right or wrong here, only whats comfortable for you. So make sure you sit and drive in both ( 14 and 18 way seats). In the configuration there is a no charge box you can tick for active air suspension. Confusingly active air suspension is standard on the GTS, what happens it gives you a softer version of the air suspension that 10mm higher than the default suspension. I haven’t seen any members complain about a harsh ride on the new GTS so it maybe a mute point. I suggest reaching out to @meerec from Sydney who just got his GTS and maybe able to give you some insights. @yrralis1 will also be able to give you insights as he had a previous Turbo with the softer suspension and now has a new GTS with the firmer suspension I believe.

Good luck and feel free to reach out with any questions you may have.

Tony - life is short - order the GTS exactly how you like it and never look back - you may find youself saying "why didn't I start doing this 10 year ago" :)

I have sport package - red stitching - leather dash etc. I like the racetech steering wheel and seats - if I could have gotten leather steering wheel with sport package I might have optioned that - but racetech feels good and is easier to hold onto during sporty driving.

Color - get what you like - same for interior layout - when you get in each day you want to sit down and smile as you look around!

Tunes - if you like to listen to tunes - get the Burnmeister - well worth the $$$ over base or Bose.

There is not bad configuration - as long as it is the one you want. Can't wait to see what you get and how you enjoy the expericne - which is what life is all about!

Enjoy the journey getting there!

Tony in your situation I would definitely buy the GTS and dont settle for less. I say this because this car purchase is special to you in that it is your first new car and your first Porsche so you dont want to downgrade the occasion if you are in a financial position to do so.
I have just taken delivery of a new GTS, it is my second Macan and my fourth Porsche. The new GTS is an absolute gem and a great all rounder vehicle with plenty of performance and handling attributes
A couple of comments on your build, heated front seats are standard inclusions on a GTS so ticking the box just adds heating to the rear seats which you may or may not need? It is personal taste but I don’t feel the red interior stitching works with Papaya exterior and would go for Crayon stitching instead.
The rest of the build I like

I was just writing a reply when yours popped up @Beardy!

I love all the comments here thanks so much everyone! You're all extremely helpful and friendly when it comes to encouraging other people to spend their money and exactly what I wanted from you :D

Thanks for all the comments on the Papaya clash, it was on my mind and this confirms that I'll be doing something different.

This is absolute gold!! Thank you so much. I've been struggling to understand why I'd ever want to heat the rear seats and just thought I needed this to get front heating and this now makes a huge amount of sense. This configurator and process is both powerful and ambiguous! The $0.00 suspension choice is a gotcha too undoing the GTS lowering!

Until I can test seats and ride, I'll be keeping the GTS as is in terms of 18 way seats and the suspension. I am happy with a firmer, more sporty ride and will get used to whatever it is when it comes. On that, my understanding with the GTS and the air suspension is that when you put the car into sport+ mode or something that's when it lowers itself 10mm?

I'll be asking the dealer if I can have the GTS sport package without the race tex steering as I do like the included carbon inside, but can't bring myself to add it out of pocket. For now, I'm configuring without the sport package and I do really like the red tacho I get doing it this way haha! Sunroof is out for now too. I don't believe I'll really use it, don't have one now, don't miss it and was only adding it really for that resale thing...which isn't really a big consideration here :p But, if anyone really likes the sunroof feel free to convince me otherwise.

Loadspace management is added. I watched the YT vids and liked what I saw. Means go fast with stuff in the back.

CWM for now, red stitching, no carbon. Other suggestions above I've liked are now added. I'm really liking it. It'll be a quick trip to the dealer to go through this and deposit haha.

Oh man, the GTS standard features in Australia are really something. I need to write this down here so I remember and maybe others can find this. All copied directly from my GTS configurator standard features page.

Australian GTS standard features I think I've heard other countries/models optioning up:
  • Selectable matallic paint zero cost
  • Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PSCB) - the hardened, low brake dust tungsten stuff
  • Sport Chrono Package including mode switch
  • 19-inch collapsible spare wheel
  • Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus)
  • Power steering Plus
  • Automatic tailgate (this was a question I had, but answered now reading the standard features list)
  • Adaptive cruise control including additional functions in case of detected risk of collision such as visual and audible warning, warning via brake pressure, brake assistance in case emergency braking of the driver is detected, emergency brake assistant and pedestrian warning
  • ParkAssist (front and rear) with visual and audible warning incl. reversing camera and Surround View
  • Tinted thermally insulated glass all round
  • Privacy glass (It is weird that this and the thermally insulated glass above are a selectable option for almost $2k aud still. Update: in the configurator I think it reads like it's adding the noise insulation for $2k: "Thermally and noise insulated glass incl. privacy glass $1910 A$")
  • Seat heating (front). Three-stage heating with separate controls for front left and right (Here it is, your GTS front seats are already heated!! - no need to choose it in the configuration)
  • BOSE® Surround Sound System with 14 loudspeakers including subwoofer, 14 amplifier channels and a total output of 665 watts

I prefer the racetex over leather and had it in the last 3 Porsches. It is easy to maintain and holds its shape better than full leather. The only potential negative is you cant have seat cooling but that does not concern me. However I have not specced a racetex steering wheel. I am told they look shabby fairly quickly from the oil in your hands and we use our cars often and put plenty of k’s on them, if it is more a trophy car that gets little use it is a mute point.
I didn’t have a sunroof in my previous Macan but have gone back to one on the new one and happy I did.It is a nice touch but if you are not fussed either way maybe save the money
The ride quality of the GTS is fine, the car feels more like a sportscar than a Rangerover. You can lower the height a further 10mm with a press of a button or select sports plus and get the lower ride plus stiffer suspension

A note on GTS supspension… I’m in a 2017 on 21’s which may be different than the 2023. But I generally keep it on sport which is one notch stiffer that “normal” and the first thing almost everyone says when they get in the car is how smooth the ride is…. Also for some reason lowering when at cruising speed on the freeway just seems to smooth the world out even more. Go figure, I think it has more to do with the seats than anything else!

I like both builds even though they are different . On build 1 I agree with @Beardy on the chalk stitch over the carmine with Papaya . I also would have selected the black brake caliper with papaya .
Build two I also like . The only different thing is the side blades . I really hate them and would go body color if not doing the sport package . Thats just my personal taste .

I have a question on both cars .. is Bose standard.? I don't see it as an option .
You did very well on a first new car with both spec .

I like the way this build is trending -- CWM with the Carmine Red GTS interior. One minor note: I believe the GTS interior includes rev counter in Carmine and you've also ticked the box at extra cost for that option. A$610 extra that you need not spend, I think.

With all of us "helping" you on this build, you'll be lucky to come out with the shirt on your back! <grin>

Really like your latest build. I would go for red GTS lettering on the side - it would match up the red brake calipers. One item you may want to re- think is PTV. Its a pricey option and most people think its not worth it unless you track your car or drive on snow and even than its of limited value compared to a 911.

In this review I was really impressed by how good the CWM looked with python (and sport package ) . I never would have imagined . I do like his build though but I think this is worth peeking at . Plus its a good review . 11 min 52 sec shows interior .

From your last build… I like it a lot especially those wheels and the satin black exterior pack.

I’d personally drop the PTV and add the Panoramic roof.

Also I would be tempted to add additional red gauge faces - to match the tachometer.

On a GTS I would add Park Assist for one reason - so the console buttons match on the bottom. Clearly I‘ve got a OCD problem but I doubt I’m the only Porsche owner with that issue… I could live without the GTS side decals but I’d see that missing button every time I got in the car…

If it had the towbar (definitely add that if there is a remote chance you may want it later), I otherwise see it as my ideal specification for a GTS.

Oh, I know there’s some love for body coloured side blades but it’s the one thing I’d change on mine. I’d like gloss black. Makes a Macan look more like a Macan to me.

Just my 2c from a first time Porsche owner… Yes, we are all a bit “special” and the level of customization available makes this such fun eh ?
