I had two handles with small cracks replaced by dealer. The new handles have developed cracks larger than the cracks on the original handles. Vehicle is out of warranty now so dealer will not replace the handles again. I should have just kept the original handles!

Not sure if it is the paint or handle that is the issue but the replacement handles were painted here and not in Germany.

The sa mentioned something about the wrong use of material but they don’t have an updated part for it. None of my other cars have this issue (S class, m2) and From a bystanders point of view it feels like they delegated the development work to the intern.

My 15 month old “S” hasn’t got the ‘Entry & Drive’ option and, fingers crossed, no cracks in my door handles. Reading the Macan forum here in the UK, ( Porsche Macan Forums - Forum for all Porsche Macan Owners ) I have seen that this problem does seem to be affecting door handles that have the easy access option, and the problem may be linked to the expansion of the ‘chip’ mechanism embedded inside the door handle, which causes the handle to crack.

Great info allang, such a low level mistake to not factor in the “chip” expanding. It seems like the issue has been quite long and I think Porsche doesn’t even want to come out with a revised part for this issue. Stall until model gets replaced, then only replace the ones that complain enough is much cheaper than redesigning a part, getting new moulds and issuing a recall to affected owners.

my handle on the drivers side is pretty obviously damaged now. Seems suspicious that porsche hasn't come out with a new part number to remedy this issue. I've never had such a low level mistake, from getting a Toyota to a Mercedes. None of these vehicles had such an issue.

Porsche issued a manufacturing technical bulletin on this problem. I had my door handles (2018) replaced free of charge. They changed the door handle material as part of the corrective action.
Please link or attach the TSB.

Thanks!

Really? Would you by any chance have the updated part number?(not that I don’t believe you) my dealer is known to be a dick about service and it would make more sense for them to lie than for Porsche to not issue a new part to fix the issue.

Was the car in or out of warranty? Mine is just out of warranty by mileage. Would it be covered still?

So I just purchased my second Macan, a new to me 2018 GTS (still under new car warranty until next year). All four handles had this issue, which I had initially thought were scratches. I should have checked here. Anyways, I just paid my body shop $200 to repaint the handles - only to have him call me and say the cracks kept coming back. He called Porsche and found out about the TSB which led me here.

Anyways, is it confirmed there are new replacement parts? Also, what are my odds that Porsche reimburses me for the $200 I just paid to have the handles painted to no avail?
