I recently picked up a ‘17 S and knew immediately the silver calipers had to go. Red is classic, and red calipers look good on almost everything, but I wanted to do something different since I had the choice. I know yellow is the color of the calipers when you get carbon ceramics, and I’m not trying to imitate or “fake it” but I just thought the gray/yellow combo looked great & couldn’t pass it up. Had them painted a few weeks ago and very happy with the result!

I didn't like the way red looked on chalk . For years it ruined chalk for me . Whether it was the light bar or the caliper I wanted no red . The PCCB would have looked dynamite on chalk. I wont go yellow unless its the real deal . I thus chose gloss black and an option . I do have yellow Brembo (aftermarket ) on one 911 but it states "Brembo" identifying it rather than "Porsche" . . I also have real PCCB on another 911 . For me it has to be real .

I think it looks good and I don’t think you’re misrepresenting anything. It’s just a color. It’s not like you’re putting GTS badges on a base trim or something.
Wait!! what? I can't do that? ;)

I had the calipers on my wife's Macan painted to match the body color:

This is not so. Red is a known color of Porsche caliper and so is yellow . Each represent the type of brakes on the car. Porsche happens to offer gloss black for either of those two in case the person feels that the natural color doesn’t look as well with the exterior. A base model car doesn’t get either red or yellow unless the person were to option it specifically with those brakes. PCCB are not even available on the current generation Macan, but they were available on the first generation, which was the OP‘s car. We have a few members that have them.

As far as painting, the caliper in some type of non-authentic color goes any person who knows Porsche will immediately see that . Whether they judge or interpret, it will differ from person to person.

When it comes to cosmetics, it basically is up to the owner what he wants to do. Of course he can paint a mural on the side of his car of an elf dancing on the moon if he wishes. It doesn’t mean everyone will think it’s great.

When I was looking at possibly getting my Macan S in red it bothered me that the brake calipers were not the same red as the car and I probably would have gone and painted it the same red if I had gone that route.

Exactly. Do what you want to do. Someone else may not like it or even look down on your "faker" car - but who cares. Your car should make YOU happy.

I agree. There’s only one problem. When you post it in an open forum, the comments will vary. The more one breaks from traditional, the more risk exposure to getting comments like mine on these calipers. Not that it should detract from his enjoyment of his car but if somebody is reading this who is considering doing this, at least he knows both sides of the coin.
