2022 GTS vs 2021 turbo - $10k delta!

I just configured a 2022 GTS equivalent to our soon to be delivered 2021 turbo. Only differences are PSCB (no longer available) and RaceTex headliner (standard on turbo) which accounts for about $5k. Our turbo config is just shy of $112k. The 2022 GTS came in at just under $102k. I’m tempted to cancel our Mamba green turbo and reorder a Papaya GTS. Of course delivery would now be out to next spring . . .

Sigh.

@GHL great summary and thanks for sharing. Please update the group to see if your dealer decides to pass on the discount.

I am in a similar boat albeit my MSRP is a little less than yours. But essentially a ‘22 is only $200 more than my ‘21 order. But i didn’t order PSCB, which you know is standard on the new GTS. And like yourself, I did get a discount (5%) on my ‘21, so I doubt my dealer would offer any additional discounts after the fact.

Depreciation doesn’t matter too much in my case since I add huge miles to my car within a short time. And there is always something newer coming, so chasing the depreciation game in my case is moot.

Those deviated stitching is killer on ‘21. And the biggest saving is probably the deviated stitching package deal on ‘22. I basically had to build my own “GTS interior” package since the one on the configurator does not allow for ventilated seats…

22 GTS vs 21 turbo summary conclusion:

PCA’s response thru the zone rep was polite and professional and “no” to any concessions. They provided a number of reasons, the most notable was that a 22 GTS would not be delivered here for another 9 months. Yup - May 2022 for a delivery in the PacNW. One could order sooner (didn’t say when), Porsche will ship sooner, but actual “here’s your car” wouldn’t happen here until May 2022. They had a few other reasonable responses as well.

Porsche Bellingham, however, had a more sympathetic reaction. They reduced the discounted price a small amount (not much, but appreciated), They got the proper wiring harness for my Escort Redline 360c and installed the wiring to the mirror at no charge, they supplied the factory cargo mat/carpet and cargo net (both are high quality), and added the second year/20,000 service at no charge. None of these actions were necessary, nor did I expect anything. Another reason why Porsche Bellingham has such a great reputation for customer orientation and service (the store will be forever Known as Roger Jobs or Jobs Porsche to locals).

Thank you for the state of affairs with Porsche. I have given much thought about going 2022 for our on-order S but I am holding firm on 2021 S for November delivery. Hopefully, with the power steering wheel intact. The difference in horses from the second turbo does not make a large enough difference for me. There are also those of us with the final version of Macan with legacy buttons which could be interesting regarding resale value. Hard to say what becomes a collectors item and what goes to auction.

The “of” is apparently not required. Us old timers still call Porsche Bellevue “Barrier” and Porsche Bellingham “Jobs”. Here are web site shots from three different dealers with three different ownership groups.

I see this as a major inflection point for auto manufacturers and dealers. Going forward, I predict there will always be some built in scarcity and dealers will significantly cutdown on available inventory. Especially when they know the secret to sell all cars at MSRP. In fact, many European countries have done this exact thing. When you buy a car in Europe, it is almost always ordered vs bought off lots.
