Default Sirius/XM radio subscription

For those that have Sirius/XM subscriptions or would like one, they are offering one year of service for $60...and it is (according to the fine print) applicable to any currently non-connected radio. Offer is good until 6/30/18. I called and asked to get that offer applied to my Macan which does have a subscription that by luck ends this month and they agreed...I extended for one year for $60 plus some fees. If you're interested give them a call.

Offer Details: Activate a Select subscription and pay $60 for your first 12 months, a savings of 68% off the current monthly rate of $15.99, plus get free activation (an additional $15 savings). Fees and taxes apply. Service will automatically renew every month thereafter and, at the beginning of your 13th month, you will be charged according to your chosen payment method at then-current rates. To cancel you must call us at 1-866-635-2349. See our Customer Agreement for complete terms at www.siriusxm.com. All fees and programming subject to change. This offer cannot be combined with any other. Offer good on any currently inactive radio, and expires at 11:59 PM ET on 6/30/18.

Note: I was prepared for "if your radio is currently connected the offer doesn't apply" and I was prepared to just cancel my current subscription a few days early and then call again the next day with a radio that qualifies. I didn't have to go through that hoop...they just gave me the deal.

Hope this helps someone...

@ghstudio , I did not have to wait for anything to expire to get this offer on 3 cars that we have. The idea is to call the cancellation line and say "not listening to the radio a lot so want to cancel" and give them a moment to go through the script but then say "however, if you could get me a $60 a year promo then I would consider keeping it on" and every time they say fine. $60 is for 1 Year XM Select plus $11.46 royalty, plus state tax if you have one ($5 in Indiana). This is a great deal for sure but XM quality is terrible on the Bose that we have in Cayenne or Macan but choose to have it as we like the EDM channels. I wonder if anyone knows what they are really sending down to our cars but I am sure it is variable quality based on many variables but what is the best case would be good to know.

I love the idea of Sirius/XM but gave up years ago as I agree the sound quality for music is just awful on anything but the most basic car stereo system.

Also, be warned that Sirius/XM is a very difficult company to deal with when you want to cancel. They rope you in with a discount but require you give a CC# etc for auto-renew. Be prepared for 30+ minutes of phone tree menus, hard sell from "retention specialists" etc if you ever decide to cancel.

I have done the "cancel" path a few times and always wound up with an offer.....but I've never seen it as low as $60 for a year. They are, of course, desperate not to lose customers to internet streaming. I listen mostly to news/finance, comedy and some bluegrass.....so sound quality isn't of prime importance...in fact, I didn't even order the BOSE upgrade. I find that listening to quality music in a car isn't worth the $'s due to road noise and car noise in general. When I want to hear good quality music, I listen at home on my pretty high quality sound system.

Greetings all,

I've done this several times...I renew for $30 for six months. When I get close to the end of six months, I call and cancel. They will accept another six months for $30. However, DO NOT give them a CC number, ask them to send you an invoice (it may cost a few dollars), but you can pay using a check. I've done this for nearly 3 years on my other car. Every six months, call and cancel, then demand another six months for $30. Good luck.

I do this as well but I use a virtual credit card (free service with Citibank issued cc’s) with a fixed value. Then, when they try to charge the monthly fee after six months (at the regular exorbitant rates) they send you notifications that they’re having trouble billing you and they’re “concerned” your service will be interrupted. Let the subscription expire. After about three weeks of down time (I can live with it) you’ll receive an email offer for the same $30 for another six months offer because they “miss you”. Lather, rinse, repeat... I’m on my fourth six month term.

I used to also get the 30 dollar 6 month deal but I detest calling them so much to deal with it that lately i simply pay and consider it an investment in mental health . It's not just them but everything from Comcast to ATT and most customer service lines become like a part time job ( and it doesnt pay enough for my time unless I am really bored).

For my own amusement maybe next time I'll call them but I am not going say I want to cancel . I truly like sat radio. I'll simply express read on multiple forums that everyone says they are getting it for 60 bucks.
It's not just this forum BTW .

I have both vehicles on the same renewal date so one call covers them both. My wife handles Direct TV. I take care of the Wall Street Journal and Comcast. Divide and conquer.

I understand the mental health part for sure but my mental health suffers from the thought of paying above market rates too. Feels like paying sticker price on a car! In fact, list price on SiriusXM (2), Direct TV, Comcast, and WSJ would be nearly $1000 extra per year. That’s like paying $5000 too much on a five-year car purchase.

Ever wonder why they don’t just set list price at market and get rid of the people and cost of “negotiating”? It’s the same reason cars carry a sticker price. Some folks pay that much.

I have both my Macan and the wife's Jaguar on the same account, and every 6 months I play the game in order to get the reduced rate for another 6 months...about $37 per vehicle with all the fees when I pay by check. Yes it does help having the subscription end on the same date for both vehicles.

I loved XM radio at first. I had the radio on all the time and anywhere I went. Eventually I found myself listening to one station only. Eventually I realized the sound quality was grating on my sense of musical appreciation. I tried to cancel once but instead I "got the deal" for lower rated. I tried to cancel again and in so doing realized I could always "Get The Deal" if I asked for it. Sound quality was not good enough for me to accept anything other than zero cost service. Now if I want radio NPR works fine for me and if I want music I use an SD card loaded with my own selections. Most of the time though the engine sound is music in its own right for my enjoyment and apparently true for many others as well.
