Our dealer knows nothing more than what's been public. The sales manager said "they sent us a few (2018 models)" which are on the lot "and it seems we will not be getting the 2019 until next summer so we hope the new Cayenne sells well". Also, they sold the last 2018 Cayenne so I am not sure how it makes sense to have this much of a delay since technically you cannot drive off in a brand new 2019 Macan or a 2019 Cayenne at the moment and we are in the last 3 months of the year.

I assume the delay is the red stripe between the tail lights. Lincoln, Chrysler/Dodge, Audi and others have completely outstripped production capacity.

I'm being told April delivery by my dealer also, but it's not a sure thing. They're hopeful of an announcement at either Paris or LA Auto Show, but are being kept in the dark by Porsche. They're holding my $5K deposit for a "slot" but until they know their allocation they're unable to give me a firm 'yes' on the April delivery. Frustrating.

$5K deposit? For a "slot", not even for and an order? Is that typical? My dealer took $1000 when I placed my order and with that I was not happy. If they can't even guaranteee you a delivery date and may not have a car for you for a year, at least they get to earn money off your money. I don't think holding a build slot should be $5K. Especially with no guarantees.

What I don't understand is how long Porsche will continue to push the last-gen Q5 platform. Everyone expected the facelift to be MY 2018 a couple of years ago, now they will be arriving late in 2019. By the time they launch an all-new Macan in 2022 or whenever, the Q5 platform will again be 5 years old already. That makes no sense to force Porsche to subsist on Audi's scraps. With sedans essentially disappearing and CUVs proliferating, the competition is getting too fierce to allow this. The Macan is already being out gunned in terms of power (Merc GLC 63, for example); handling (Alfa Stelvio); value (BMW X3 M40i); and aesthetics (Range Rover Velar). As competitors continue to dish up hotter versions of their entrants, it is only a matter of time before somebody cracks the code and makes the Macan completely irrelevant. I understand it carries the Porsche badge and that is enough for many buyers but the landscape has changed a lot since I bought one of the first Macan Ss in my area back in 2014. There was nothing like it then.
Hokie, sergeyb and 981GTS like this.

Totally agree. Porsche can’t afford to be conservative like they have in the past. Too much competition now. When the X3m comes out, it’s gonna cause some problems for Porsche
