A microfiber towel is a great idea. (Yes, I know that this is an old, old thread.) I have started using a California Duster. I follow the duster with a microfiber towel.

My wife and I have had quite a few SUVs over the years - a Mercedes GLK, 3 Mercedes ML350s, a Land Rover Discovery, a Mitsubishi Montero, a first generation Toyota Land Cruiser. I have never seen an SUV that collected so much dust on the rear glass/tailgate.

I also have a 10 minute ritual when I get home from work. I California duster clean the entire body, clean the windows ,windshield, back window with fiber cloths, clean my waxed wheels off from carbon, and every few days dust off the engine cover with the fiber cloth. My Wife often asks if I love my Porsche more than her to which I just reply hmmmmm? The back seat of the Macan was pretty comfortable sleeping that night.

My first Porsche was a 911. (See avatar) I bought it in the early 70's. Almost every evening I was out in the garage detailing it. My wife finally asked me if I would notice her if she got naked and lay on the hood. I told her not to do that because I didn't want her to scratch the hood. Wrong answer.

One tip is to wax the rear hatch. The dust is much easier to wipe off gently. You don’t want to scratch the paint.

The Porsche approach would be to assign several engineers to design a blower system to keep the window clear. The rest of us would probably recognise some slats in the front end of that spoiler angled downward would cure the problem.

Default Not just SUVs

I have owned two VW Golfs and they were the same magnets for the rear getting funky. I just learned to live with it, wash the car more frequently and keep a good wax job on it. I waxed the rear more frequently which made it somewhat easier to wash off the crud. I'm doing the same with the Macan. Maybe I should have bought some other color than bright white. Nah!
