Question Porsche Macan S '17 or '18 vs Audi S5 Sportback

Hi,

I need some input from the people who know best. I am looking at a '17 or '18 Macan S moderately outfitted for $68k or a fully loaded Audi s5 Sportback for $68k. I am torn. The Audi is fully loaded with all the techno gadgets but lacks the build quality and prestige of the Porsche. Also the S5 is obviously a sedan vs a SUV. Also ride height, is the S5 too low for the New England winters? I welcome your input. My question is, ignore the techno eye candy on the Audi and go with the moderately speced Macan because, well its a Porsche and an SUV.

I do live in New England but will never take either car off road. This will be my daily driver at about 20k miles annually.

Thank you.

Tough choice. I can only say drive them and decide.

Will agree with you on superior build quality of the Porsche. I've owned 2 Audi vehicles, neither held up well.

I would go with the S5. with AWD and a set of winter wheels/tires it will be fine in the snow.

2017 Macan S ordered Sept 1st, 2016. (delivered Jan 23, 2017).
My first Porsche, and my first SUV ... config

Prestige? Who cares about that?

Build quality? Reliability? Now those are important.

New England?

Macan.

If we are ignoring the techno then surely the Macan is the way to go.

For your situation and location, I would go with the Macan. Particularly if one of your modest options is the one-step-up partial leather interior, which includes a leather dash. I love my S5, but the interior cabin on the Macan is on a another level altogether.

And as for "modestly optioned," my S stIckered for $5K less, and the only thing I would change would be the 8-way seats.

Wow .. That is a tough choice . The Sportback is new (very appealing too) and the Macan is due for a refresh . It's an SUV Vs a Sedan too . Had you mentioned an SQ5 it's apples to apples .

Price goes to the Audi but the Macan is a king in its class.
I feel the tiebreaker is PDK . The Porsche has it !! The Audi doesn't.
The Audi comes with the 8 speed . Some guys also take issue with the fake exhaust pipes but i dont.

I'd pick the Macan but I'd try to make it a modest GTS if possible. The S options pricing is a tough sell. I would even consider a hefty discount on a 17 GTS . Keep in mind that the 17 cars were launched in April of 16 so that is serious leverage to negotiate on a lot car .

Dealerships want to move those cars !!!! It's nearing the end of 17 (but inventory and selection choices are still strong) , its nearing months end (every unit counts) ... there's got to be something close enough out there .

1 Audi Vs the rest. What can we expect in a Macan Forum?

My vote is also for Macan.

Macan Yes, Cayman (double) Yes (in order)

I'm leaning towards the S5 coupe in 6 months. I'm in a '15 Turbo now. Great vehicle, but I don't want to drive the same thing again for the next three years! Just my 2 cents!
