Default Macan base 2.0 vs GLC coupe 2017

Hi Guys,
I'm new to the forum, now struggling between these two cars. Need some good advice especially from those who have driven both.
I personally prefer technology, luxury and comfort ahead of power. So for a base Macan, I would add a lot of options which would increase the price from 52k to about 65k (I'm in Canada) to get a relatively well-equipped machine. For GLC coupe, I would add in several packages to make it around 62k which is already highly equipped for a GLC coupe.
I know that for a Macan base, the hp is 252 versus 241 hp for GLC coupe, have anyone test driven both and any feedback would be appreciated. Again, power is something I value but wouldn't be the top 3 of my preferences. And I do have a budget, ideally I would want a well-equipped car with as good driving experience as possible, no more than 65k.
I see a lot of people here suggest Macan S, I know it would be great to actually feel like driving a porsche, but given the budget I have, if I go for S, I would have to give up a lot of options, which I don't want to. I do most of my drive in the city, normal driver, sometimes craving for acceleration, and normally take the left end lane on the highway driving at around 120km/h in Toronto, I hope for these driving needs, both Macan base and GLC coupe can give me satisfaction.
Given the fact that this is a Macan forum, I know there would be bias, I just want to know as much facts about these two cars as possible so I can make an informed decision in the end.

Thanks Guys !

Default Macan base 2.0 vs GLC coupe 2017

I'm actually in the same boat...I have driven both and they both have their pro's and con's. IMHO they equal out on handling and performance...I am not in this for performance though since I already have a Camaro ZL1 and Z06 Vette. Just wanting something luxurious to drive as my DD with better gas mileage. I feel that Mercedes GLC 300 Coupe has a better acceleration and doesn't seem to "studder" when the Turbo is being pushed for its power. The shifting points are more smooth on the Mercedes as well. Now you don't get the delivery experience with Mercedes but fully loaded my build was close to $10k less than the Porsche including 4 years maintenance. The Mercedes GLC 43 AMG Coupe is a bigger V6 and will give you the driving experience you want...I don't feel you will have the power you want from either 4 cylinder.

Hello!

I was also struggeling between these two a few weeks back. I got the oppertunity to have the Macan as a loan car when my old Boxster was on a service and that's when it all started for me.. I could not imagine myself loving this car, but I did. This was 2015.

There price of the Macan was way over my budget. My Boxster is worth around $30.000 CAD and the price of the Macan starts around $86.000 CAD in my country.

Anyway things changed and I decided try a few reference cars before I made any decisions. Then the GLC appeared and I love the design of it and it was cheaper then the Macan. Was looking at the hybrid but test drove the diesel. For me the power did not matter either but the driving experience, interior and design did. The look and feel of the car overall!

Driving the very well equipped CLC Coupé was a nice experience. High comfort and a lot of tech. Although there was something missing for me.. It felt like driving a big ferry where you are located in the small cockpit on top with a lot of boat around you. I think the surround view camera for parking is default since you can't see anything around you. Definitely not behind you. Overall it did not give that special feeling I was looking for.

Then I went to test drive the base Macan. The driving experience was totally different from the GLC from a pleasure point of view. There was a presence driving it that I missed with GLC and other cars I've driven. It remind me of my Boxster although very different cars. I couldn't really tell the difference between driving the diesel version though.

I ended up ordering the base Macan! Lock date is tomorrow. I'm thrilled and do not regret my choice so far..

I researched both. You should test drive both models. I ended up ordering a Base just to my liking as I love the tech and luxury features. The power is fine for me and the torque is great for daily driving.

Looks-wise, my $0.02, the GLC interior is overdone and I hate the screen propped up on the center dash. Looks like an add-on from Best Buy. The exterior looks great.

Good luck!

Check your local Mercedes dealer...I just received an email giving me 2 years free maintenance and $6k off MSRP without any haggling. Might make your mind up if you can get it...

Only way to make any decisions is for one to "kick the tires" and test drive. There are a lot of good opinions that can be read on this forum but we all have different needs and ideas on what is better. Test drive several and decide what you can afford and what you need. Good luck .

Thanks guys for all the replies. I'm now leaning towards a base Macan with lots of options. I will test drive the base and S this weekend and hopefully get a better idea.

Yeah you're right I guess. As well, $6k off the top upon purchase will translate into a further $6k in depreciation down the road. Lose/lose. I stand...amended!! Lol, cheers!
