Default 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio - A Macan Competitor?

StelvioForum.com - The Largest Alfa Romeo Stelvio Forum And Community!

"The Stelvio comes with two available engines. A 2.0-liter direct-injected turbo four powers the base and mid-range Ti models, making 280 hp and 306 pounds-feet of torque. A 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine (505 hp, 443 pounds-feet of torque -- good for a 3.9-second 0 to 60 mph time) powers the top-end Quadrifoglio. The V6 also features cylinder deactivation, shutting off half of its cylinders when not under load, for better fuel economy."

Looks nice. I'm not an Alfa Romeo guy but it looks like Macan competition to me.

Has anyone owned an Alfa Romeo here, what's the reliability like?

I am an Alfa Romeo guy and I desperately want them to do well. But they're not. The 4c has not been selling well. The Giulia isn't here yet, over a year past due (the 4c was also late). I would think we won't see the SUV for some time.

I owned a Spyder back in the 90's. My mechanic loved me and we became close personal friends. I helped him buy a new house. Maybe they've gotten better?

If Alfa can squeeze 505hp out of 2.9L, why can't Porsche up the ponies on a 3.0L Macan?!

Ah, the memories. I drove a 1964 alfa giulia convertible for a few years back in the late 60's...and like Bluestraveler, I got to know the folks at Modina Motors in NYC quite well. I actually loved going there....they really only serviced Maserati's, Ferrari's and lamborghini's at $95 or more an hour in those days....and the same mechanics worked on my alfa for $25 an hour and occasionally, they'd let me go on a test drive. To say my car was well tuned was an understatement.

I would buy one again...but assuming that my visits for service would be more often.

Not to be negative but here's a brand I will wait to see how the reliability and resale shake out before taking a look. If resale is any thing like Maserati I would definitely not purchase new. I like the looks but ?

I own a late 70s spider with the mysterious SPICA injection. It's a breeze to work on. I think you should go back to your mechanic and get some money back.
