Default Recommendation for exceptional timepiece

Because generally P owners have great taste! I find that most (but not all) car guys are also watch guys so here I am seeking your advice!

I'm looking for an exceptional timepiece. In particular the AP royal oak full pave. My concern is that it might be too geometric and angular looking that it won't work well for black tie events.

For you to get a sense of my taste, I gravitate towards van cleef & arpels and chopard like there's no tomorrow :P
But I'm looking for something different; something out of my comfort zone; and something exceptional. Not something more tame like a datejust or tank française.

P.S. I don't know too much about watches but I'm someone whose hoping to learn a thing or two about them!

So, my question is...what do you think of the AP royal oak on a woman (is it too masculine?) and do you have any other recommendations.

Thanks in advance!

There is a ladies version of that watch, that only costs half of what a Macan costs. Any reason you want the men's version?

2015 Macan S, Agate Grey, AS/PASM/PTV, 20" SD, Tow hitch and roof rails, No sunroof
1973 911S, Ivory White, MT5
1973 911RS, White/Blue, MT5

Only half of what a Macan costs you say? I would get the His and Hers Combo Set! :-) Only in my dreams. And I own 2 P cars (Ok, one of them was bought CPO)!

...and shoes too - how do you think Burberry suede loafers would look, someporschegirl, on me? Go with my blue eyes, but $785 would buy Sports Design mirrors.
Ermenegildo Zegna blue driving shoes don't clash either, but they're $835. Piloti’s would obviously work best on track days, especially if driving with them, and they're much cheaper ($200-300), but would they clash with my complexion?

Seriously though, have you considered looking at Horological Links, or asking on a watch forum? Would you actually choose on our say so?

I prefer vintage when it comes to watches. The price point might be higher than you're looking for, but the bvlgari serpenti watches are truly exceptional:

For a simple elegant look, Cartier crash watch is perfect for a black tie affair:
