My go to single malt is Lagavulin but it's a bit of an acquired taste since it's quite peaty. Depending no my mood, I'll put a small ice cube in the glass or drink it neat.

If you see an ad just below my posted text above, it's inserted by the forum owner, not me.

I keep two bottles around for scotch drinkers. Lagavulin and Balvenie DoubleWood.

Both bought around the same time. Lagavulin is almost full-looks like one drink. Balvenie is almost empty.
Just sayin'.

I'm relatively new to Scotch (only 20 years) but my Favorites, not in any order are:
Oban/MacCallan Gold/Dalwhinnie/Glenkinchie and of course the standards of Glenfiddich and Glenlivet. The U.S. retailers have very good pricing on the hard stuff. We Canadians are at the mercy of the Provincial Gods taxing the H**L out of booze.

Enjoy. Cheers!

+1 on Oban. Complex, not too earthy, a bit off the beaten track from the better known brands.

A best scotch thread will have as many different answers as best options for a Macan.

Scotch drinkers are very particular, and no one Scotch will satisfy everyone's tastes. May I suggest asking them what their favorite Scotch is, go out and buy a bottle and surprise them both having the bottles stocked in your liquor cabinet. I think the guys will be touched, and who knows... you may like it (them) as well.

Laphroaig 15 year

The most intensely flavored single malt Scotch available. The only one that works for me.

One of my favorites as well, and really a go-to when I can't make up my mind, but might not be the best choice for someone just getting into the Scotch game. Intense flavor, lots of peat and smoke, which can sometimes be a little much for a newcomer. Would recommend sticking to the smoother end of the spectrum when first leaving the gates, and develop one's palette slowly over time with small steps.
