Default Wheel prices? I'm out of touch

I've resisted the call to upgrade my Raptor as it's pretty nice as it is.

Today I happened upon a YouTube video a guy made with his Raptor with HRE P161 20" wheels.
He also put brembo calipers and drilled rotors on, as well as custom bumpers, Borla exhaust, etc. Really beautiful and functional upgrades.

The wheels are beautiful and so I figured, why not?

So I start an internet search for them.

OMG. I bring it up and see $2400. I figure, wow, that's like $600 apiece. Okay, I ain't rich but I'm no pauper either and the bleeding on the media room and new kitchen we just finished stopped.

Then I see it's another $100 for 20", $400 for a different finish, for a total of $2900.

Ok, I'm still in.

Then I realize, to my shock, they are $2900 APIECE!!!

Am I just completely out of touch or a complete dope?

I'd dare say no way in heck are the Porsche OEM wheels nearly that expensive, probably half as much.

What makes these so special?

12 GRAND for wheels? I think not. I couldn't afford the tires. ;-)

One guy on here bought aftermarket wheels for his Turbo PP and paid around that for each wheel. I'm with you on this because I can think of a whole lot of other things I would rather do with $12K.

Seems the wheel is forged aluminum with some precision casting process to justify the price. At $2900 per wheel I would never take those off road, so it might not be the best choice! If I was preparing a Raptor for the Sema Show, well that's a different story!

It makes the Porsche factory wheels, even the 21" Turbo Design, seem like a bargain.

Very strong and very light. The reduced weight means marginally faster acceleration, and shorter stopping distances.....but the difference is usually not significant enough to justify the extra expense on its own (IMO). A strong desire for a certain look, along with a custom width & offset, is also needed to help rationalize the high cost.

Yep !! They are expensive . 10 years ago i paid nearly 7 grand for my HRE Forged wheels . They are amazing !!

Dont park the Raptor outside though . The theives know those wheels better than you know what you ate for breakfast .

I happen to love the quality of the wheel and the finish . HRE wheels are my favorite wheel as you can see .

The Brembo brakes are expensive too !! I have those as well ..LOL .

That guy's Raptor you saw cost him some $$$$ to dress up .

look at mine .. and a close up the the Brembo BBK
BTW the finish on mine is the "brushed" clear . I love the hand made texture of the finish and like it on both a black or white car.

MDJACK,

Wow, that's a shocker. But it really works against functionality - using your Raptor off road - even a little off road. Money better saved - or spent elsewhere.

HRE is one of the top tier brands, so you'll definitely pay more for their wheels (forged costs more than cast as there's more work involved to make them and there's various ways to cast so their price change and quality differs). The Porsche 21" Turbo Design set for the Macan is $9200 retail (https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKU95B21TT.html).
