Default Tell Every One or Tell No One?

I found this thread concerning Porsche ownership and people's perceptions in regard to keeping ownership to themselves interesting and some responses fascinating.

Your opinion? Will this transfer to Macan ownership? Or will the fact it's a CUV make a difference in other people's opinions?

I know many people can't answer this yet in that the Macan will be their first Porsche, but even if this is your first p-car, I'm sure you can project and predict other people's reactions to your new car. What is Mom and Dad going to think? How about your friends or siblings?

Price doesn't matter either. Base 981s are roughly the same cost as Macan S.

So, what will it be? Will you tell others of your new Macan or keep it to yourself (obviously an online forum among auto enthusiasts doesn't count)?

While we haven't quite ordered the Macan yet, when we do, it will be kept to ourselves. Back in 2012, when I took delivery of our new M3, folks at work/neighbours were very surprised. Some even remarked "why didn't you say anything"? My response was "why"? I do things for myself and my family, not for others, or to evoke a response/reaction.

Infact, to this day, I still drive our '99 CRV to work on a daily basis so as not to create perception/bias amongst my coworkers and management.

What a question, grim!
I don't care what other people can say. I like it, I want it and I'll buy it.
I have to say, a lot of people won't notice Macans in Moscow's hard traffic life. Just a new car on a streets. No wow-factor at all, Porsche or not, doesn't matter. Too much fashion labels in all big cities. But my friends awaiting for my Macan to drive it, because two of them are thinking about it, but not ready to buy it unseen.

ADD: my Mom is still crying about my stolen RRS))

Actually, this is a huge issue with me.

My wife and I come from blue collar and clerical (as in clerk, not clergy, ha ha) white collar backgrounds, respectively. Our families accepted our RX300 and 330i's when they were new 14 years ago, but now that we are thinking of stepping up to Porsche, I fear that we will be treated differently. Some relatives have complained about "living paycheck to paycheck", and "I'd never be able to afford the house you live in", and even "who do you plan to leave your money to?" (we are child-free). My wife's response to the latter was priceless. She said, "everyone will buy a Mercedes and wish we had died earlier".

So do we drive our B car to visit the relatives like when we shop at Target?

What do we tell the niece who can't afford to go to college or the aunt who needs to move to assisted living? That our Porsche is more important?

It is of course. But I'd rather not be outed as a complete a$$hole.

I highly recommend his book too, although this page has links to most of what you'll need. Skim any less relevant parts, but finish the whole thing before you form an opinion and especially before you deal with your current girl friend. Thank me (much) later.
Thanks Its tough isn't it! Females just don't get it.

In my case, it was my wife who convinced me to order the M3, and it is her that keeps compelling me to put a deposit down on the Macan before they "run out" I'm the one who is stalling.

She's a keeper!

grim, I'm sorry!

For any GF issues - I always was on the one way - doing good for a woman, she'll pay back twice more! Miracle, but I am in touch with all my EXs and we have good relationships, and we help each other.

"Oh lord won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz. My friends all drive Porsches ..." Mercedes Benz, by GERALD Levert and ANDY Gibson, sung by Janis Joplin.

I hear ya and have empathy.

This is exactly the issue, at least for those not from wealthy families.
