Default Car Airplay via AirEnabler and/or a modified USB powered Apple Airport Express

I currently have this AirEnabler setup for audio Airplay. It works out of the box and can be added to any car with AUX input in less than a minute. I think it's quite good and sounds better than AUXBT. Of course, the iPod USB connection is still the best option in terms of sound quality but AirEnabler is a very cheap and easy solution to adding Airplay to your car. Sound quality can also be improved by using a better DAC or USB sound card, which I'm also planning to get.

See links below for more info or where to buy.

I'm also going to try using a modified Apple Airport Express (APE). Basically, the APE will need to be converted to become USB powered instead of using DC. Inverters can be used to avoid modifying the APE but I've read it's not a good solution as inverters are a little bulky and can get too hot. I'm waiting a few weeks to get the necessary parts (mainly the step-down module) to get this started.

A few people has already done this but here's what I'm going to copy.

I think APE will be the better solution since it's an Apple product. If I can get it to work then it will be my permanent Airplay setup.

Seriously, what are you gaining from this that Bluetooth can't handle?

AirPlay uses the Apple Lossless codec exclusively, which means that anything up to CD-quality files will be delivered with no lossy compression

What @Ekohn00 said - BT is compressed, AirPlay is not. Not really trying to say that we are audiophiles, but another option to play music in the car is not a bad thing.

The other benefit is, which is as equally important for me, any of my friends and family members with an iDevice can stream music to the car easily.

Not trying to convince anyone here. I'm just providing options.

That's a benefit I hadn't thought of, would be nice if you have a lotof pax who don't want to plug in/pair their devices.

That's exactly one of the biggest benefit of Airplay and it's a fun thing that we do at home. That's why I want to have that capability in the car granted it's for audio only.
